Allapuzha
Allapuzha popularly known as Venice of the East is in the district of Kerala. It lies amid the Arabian Sea and Vembanad Lake. Through its interiors flows the river Pamba and the river is the host of two Vallamkali or Snake Boat Race in the region called the Moolam Vallamkali at Champkulam and Nehru Trophy Vallamkaly at Punnamadakayal. The backwaters of Allapuzha are interconnected with backwaters of Kollam, Kottayam and Kochi. The backwater cruise in Kettuvallam or Houseboat is very famous here. |
While traveling through these backwaters you would come across so many temples, churches and mosques, which exist side by side, depict the religious harmony of the region.
Allapuzha Beach
Some hours spend in the beach would be relaxing and enlivening for the rest of the journey. There is a huge light house in the beach and you could also see piers that are over hundred years old. The amazing Vijaya Beach Park and the Sea View Park are other attractions of the area.
Pathiramanal
Pathiramanal is an attractive island in the Vembanad Lake. What makes this place attractive is that thousands of rare migratory birds flock to this region.
Backwater Cruise
Allapuzha is a splendid place for backwater cruise. The terrain is attractive with the intermingling of water bodies, paddy fields and green foliage. Besides that you could see some real rural life of Kerala. A houseboat journey through these backwaters would be the best choice you can have, if you have come here to spend your honeymoon holidays. Krishnapuram Palace
It is located 47 km from Allapuzha; this palace was built by Marthandavarma in the 18th century in the typical Kerala Architectural style. The main attraction is the largest mural painting of Kerala called the ‘Gajendra Moksham’.
Karumadikuttan
It is a small village near Ambalapuzha which is famous for its granite idol of Lord Budha called Karumadikuttan.
Kuttanad Region
The region is tagged as “the rice bowl of Kerala” because of its vast expanse of paddy field which is a visual treat for the eyes. Moreover it is the only region in the world where farming is done below sea level.
Mullackal Rajeshwari Temple
This temple is dedicated to Goddess Rajeshwari and the famous festival is the nine day Navaratri festival which is celebrated twice a year.
Ambalapuzha Temple
It is a temple constructed in typical Kerala architectural style and the temple is famous all over India and the main offering is called Palpayasam or sweet milk porridge, which is world famous.
Mararikulam
It is located on the coast south of Allapuzha; a 12 km journey would take you to that place. It has a quiet beach with a fishing village nearby. This beach has also scope for ayurvedic treatment, water sports, tennis and pool.
