Athirapally
Athirapally gives you the most breathtaking moments in Kerala, referred to as the Niagara of India, attracts lots of visitors. The waterfall is positioned on the course of the Chalakudy River which originates from the upper reaches of the Western Ghats, comes falling down from a height of 80 ft at this point. Situated east of Chalakudy, a place in Thrissur District, is located at the opening of Sholayar Forest which is Kerala’s Rain Forest. |
This region is also the habitat of four endangered Hornbill species. The picturesque element of this place attracts lots of renowned films director, who compete each other to bring this slice of nature to celluloid.
A rocky road takes you around the mountain and gives you a spectacular visual of the waterfall. The best time to visit Athirapally is in September, just after the monsoon, when the water rushes through its path in its full force.

A heavenly hill resort with lot of tea plantations around and has a good elephant density which is the highest in India.
Vazhachal
This waterfall is part of Chalakudy River. It is a beautiful waterfall and a famous picnic spot located on the border of the Sholayar Forest Range in Kerala.
Annakayam
Annakayam is a serene place not spoiled by human encroachment. It has a calm lake which is relaxing and the water is soothing. You could reach there by traveling 20 km from Chalakudy.
Charpa Falls
Charpa Falls is located between Athirapally and Vazhachal Waterfalls and is very close to the road.
Peringalkuthu & Sholayar Dams
These dams are constructed across the Chalakudy River and are located deep inside the forest on the way to Valparai. The dams generate hydroelectric power to the state and with permission from the government you could visit these places.
Water Theme Parks
There are two Water Theme parks in Athirapally which offers lots of adventure games and water sports. They are the Dram World and Silver Storm.
Thumpurmuzhi Gardens
It is famous for its idyllic location, consisting of well maintained gardens, a good waterfall and green surroundings.
You could reach this amazing place by traveling 65km from Thrissur District and 30 km from Chalakudy.
