Kollam Backwaters
Kollam Backwaters comprises of Ashtamudi Lake which breaks into 8 tributaries as the name denotes. Almost 30% of the town is covered by this lake and the place is famous for its cashew and marine industry. It was once a renowned port and now it is trying to regain its glory as a port. A cruise through these backwaters in houseboats is a rare mesmerizing experience of blue waters, birds singing, green canopy of coconut trees and palms the music rendered by birds. The most famous is the boat ride from Kollam to Allapuzha and is the longest ride in Kerala which takes about 8 hrs.
Kochi Backwaters
It is known as the queen of Arabian Sea, comprising of a cluster of amazing Islands scattered in the wide Vembanad Lake. The magnificient islands are Bolgatty, Vypeen, Gundu and Vallarpadam. Kozhikode Backwaters

The sunset view from these backwaters is amazing and gives a cooling effect for your body and mind with the banks dotted with coconut and palm trees in the background. Kasargod is famous for its coir and handloom industries and fishing is a chief source of livelihood. The 17th century Chadragiri Fort is a must see place.
Trivandrum Backwaters
Thiruvananthapuram(Trivandrum) is the capital city of Kerala and it means “ the land of the sacred serpent”. The buildings of Trivandrum is the reminiscence of its splendid past due to the old buildings built in wood in Kerala style with tiled roofs and carved gables. It is also well known as a place where eminent literary figures, film technicians, painters and political leaders live. The major attractions of the place are Padmanabhaswamy Temple, Museum Complex, Kanakakkunnu Palace, Science and Technology museum, Sanghumugham beach and Veli Tourist Village.
It has an illustrious backwater which is serene with a golden sunset and ripples that has music in it. The major backwater areas of Trivandrum are Veli and Thiruvallam which is famous for its adventure tours also. |
