The Leading Beaches of Kerala
Allapuzha Beach
Allapuzha has a long stretch of coastline which is bordered by dense palm groves. It has a pier which extends to the sea and is 140 years old. Lagoons, canals, lakes, numerous fresh water rivers blend and join these beaches to make it lovelier.
Bekal Beach
It is an old-fashioned little town of Kasargode, and is basically a fishing village, located 153 km north of Kozhikode. Bordered with coconut trees, this beach has Bekal Fort that stands on a high rock projecting into the sea. It is fast developing as an International tourist destination.
Beypore Beach
It is one of the prominent ports and fishing harbor of ancient Kerala and is also an important trade and maritime center. During ancient period it was a most sought after destination for ship building. The river Chaliyar flows into the sea through this beach.
Cherai Beach
Cherai has the sea on the western side and backwaters on the East. The beach is 15 km long and is the best clean golden beach of Kerala. You can occasionally spot dolphins here and is excellent location for swimming.
Fort Kochi Beach
The beach and the town were illustriously designed by the Portuguese, the Dutch and later the British. It is 12 kms from Ernakulam City and the best loved place to spend evening for the Kochiites.
Kappad Beach
Kappad Beach is a historic beach where Vasco-da-Gama Landed on 27th of May 1498, with 170 men is three vessels. There is pillar inscription which commemorates this event. The beach is studded with rocks and is known as Kappakadavu. There is ancient temple built on a sprawling rock that extends to the sea and is said to be 800 years old.
Kovalam Beach
Kovalam Beach is internationally renowned and a favorite destination of tourists from all over the world. It consists of three adjacent crescent beaches, the southernmost known as Lighthouse beach is the most popular. You could go swimming and take a sunbath, moreover there are other activities like Catamaran Cruise, herbal body massage and various folklore and cultural shows taking place for visitors. All types of accommodation are available there.
Marari Beach
It is a wonderful beach located between Kochi and Allepey. It is a fishing village where life goes on as of from the ancient period where fishermen go out into the Sea for their livelihood.
Shanmugham Beach
It is an amazing beach to view Sunset and is very near to Trivandrum Airport and Veli Tourist Village.
Thirumullavaram Beach
It is located 6 km from Kollam town and there are frequent buses to this place. Thirumullavaram beach is an ideal spot to take the morning walk and to watch the fishermen venture into the sea for their daily catch.
Vallikunnu Beach
It is a beach near to Kadalundi Bird Sancturay and is great place to relax. The beach is so enlivening that you can take a stroll and stretch out in a hammock with a book.
Varkala Beach
It is a beach famous for its Spa Herbal Care Centers and a 2000 year old Janardhana Swamy Temple. The hindu temple is a major pilgrimage center and the water arising out of the hills is considered to be capable of delivering you from all sins and is believed to have medicinal properties. If you travel 34 km from Trivandrum and 37 km from Kollam you can reach Varkala Beach.
