Munnar
Munnar is popularly known as the Kashmir of South India. People are allured by its foggy hills, aromatic tea and coffee plantations, natural cool ambience and majestic accommodations. This makes Munnar a premium hill station and an attractive place for honeymoon couples and a famous summer destination. |
Munnar stands high at an altitude of 6000 feet above Sea Level. The place is amid the convergence of three rivers called Madurapuzha, Nallathanni, and Kundala. The roads to Munnar circle around the Shola Forests, tea plantations, timber plantations and vast stretches of spice plantations. The expanse consists of almost 30 tea plantations. While traveling through the hills you could see tea pickers with their baskets on their back immersed in their daily task. It is also an ideal spot for mountaineering and trekking.

Eravikulam National ParkTraveling for about 15 km from Munnar would take you to a park famous for its endangered dweller, the Nilgiri Tahr. The park is spread over an area of 97 sq. km. and is also the habitat of several species of rare butterflies, animals and birds. It is a great place to go for trekking and you would come across hazes that embrace you. Another major attraction is that this hill is the home of the famous Neelakurinji which blossoms once in twelve years. At that time lot of tourists visit this place to see it cover the hill like a blue blanket.
Anamudi Peak
Anamudi Peak is located inside the Eravikulam National Park which is considered to be the highest peak in south India standing at a height of over 2700 m. With permission from the Forest and wildlife authorities you are allowed to go trekking in this hill.
Mattupetty
On traveling 13 km from the town of Munnar you would reach a place called Mattupetty which is situated at a height of about 1700 m above sea level. It is famous for its storage masonary dam and the beautiful lake which offers boat ride in which one can enjoy the beautiful landscape around. Another famous attraction of this place is the Indo-Swiss Livestock Project where you could see high yielding breeds of cows. You could see variety of birds, large extend of grasslands and is an ideal spot for trekking.
Pallivasal
Pallivasal is famous for its first hydro-electric project in Kerala. If you travel 3 km from Chithirapuram you could reach this spot of spectacular beauty and attracts lot of foreign crowd.
Chinnakanal
From here you could witness the charming beauty of the Western Ghats. Chinnakanal, widely known as Power House Waterfalls, which falls from a rock-top that is 2000 m above sea level.
Anayirangal
To reach Anayirangal you should travel seven km from Chinnakanal and 22 km from Munnar. The Anayirangal dam is surrounded by evergreen forest and tea estates.
Top Station
Top Station is about 32 km from Munnar and stands at a height of 1700 m above sea level. It is the highest point in Munnar - Kodaikanal road. People throng here to enjoy the panoramic view of Tamilnadu. From here you could see the hills covered with blossomed blue Neelakurinji.
Tea Museum
Those who visit Munnar should visit this Tea Museum also. This will take you through the history of tea planations and its evolutions. In the tea museum you could see curios, photographs and machineries – all that has a story to tell about the history of the tea plantation.
Echo Point
On you way to the top station there is a spot called Echo Point, here on shouting, the sounds of yours can reverberate amid hills and lakes. The site offers panoramic view also and is just 15 km from Munnar.
Marayoor
Marayoor is a place famous for its sandalwood trees, ancient caves and remains from ancient civilization. If you travel 40 km from Munnar you could reach Marayoor. The government Sandalwood factory is in Marayoor.
