Vagamon
Vagamon is located at an altitude of 110 m above sea level and could be reached by traveling 100 km from Cochin and 60 km from Kottayam. It attracts tourists for its hazy grazing lands like an unfolded carpet of green, splattering waterfalls and stirring trekking through the meadows. |
Vagamon is an amalgamation of three hills consisting of Thangal Hills, Murugan Hills and Kurishumala Hills which symbolizes the Hindu-Muslim-Christian unity of the state of Kerala. This misty place is huddled in the lap of Western Ghats and is embellished by the surrounding Shola Forest. Vagamon is a great place to relax, like a vacation in a far-off-hill, when your city life is getting to your nerves.
Teekoy
Teekoy is a picturesque village situated in the banks of River Meenachil. For those who love to explore nature it will be a place full of nature’s surprises, and adorable climate.
On your Teekoy visit you should remember not to miss the Marmala waterfalls. The sight of waters rushing down the hills, spraying the atmosphere with tiny trinkets of water is a treat for the eyes. Trekker’s would love the mountains Ayyampara and Illickan, on reaching the peak; you could get stunning view of the panoramic lowlands.
Kurishumala
Kurishumala is famous for it s monastery in the tranquil surroundings. Here the Christian monks from local and foreign places dwell and go deep in meditation and prayers. Belgian Cistercian Abbot Francis Acharya adopted and fused the Indo-Christian concepts to mould this unique concept. This hill is 10 km from Vagamon and is part of Sahya Mountains. This place is best for anti-stress meditation practices and the highest peak is called the “Ressurection Garden” a whole place dedicated to medication. Apart from that the place is famous for its diary farm and the milk production amounts to 1500 liters.
Muruganmala
To the east of Kurisumala lies Muruganmala. It is has a rock-cut temple dedicated to Murugan which attracts lots of devotees.
Thangalpara
On traveling 5 km from Vagamon through the Elappara route will take you to Thangal Para. It is a resting place of Husrath Sheikh Fariduddin Baba a Sufi Saint who is considered to have reached Kerala from Afghanistan about 800 years ago. In memory of him, there is Dugah here, and Ganjusakkar a sweet dish is the main offering here.
Waterfalls
There are several waterfalls in Vagamon. The hills are filled with grass lands which stretch into the forest and the cliff on the other side.
Pine Forest
Need a secluded walk among trees clasping hands with your partner. The Pine Forest is the best option; a long stroll through the pine will help you to regain your lost energy.
Wild Orchids
There are wide varieties of Orchids in Vagamon. The peculiar feature of Orchids is tha they produce beautiful variety flowers and they are all around the place.

There are numerous tea estates in Vagamon and are very popular. You can take a leisurely walk through these estates after getting permission from the estate management.
